    RUN in detail

RUN: More machine time in day-to-day operations.

Many businesses do not automate because they want to manufacture ‘fully automatically’. They automate because the machine is idle too often in day-to-day operations: during set-up, clamping, changeovers or whilst waiting for the next job. This is exactly where RUN comes in. RUN marks the first tangible step towards increased productivity: whilst the machine is machining, the next pallet is being prepared. The changeover takes place automatically. The spindle remains productive for longer.

Set up whilst the machine is running.

The HEDELIUS 4-stage model guides manufacturing companies step by step on their journey towards automation. Whilst READY lays the technical foundations for future expansions, the second stage, RUN, marks the start of the productive use of automation in day-to-day manufacturing. The focus here is not on unmanned production or maximum automation, but on a specific goal: less set-up downtime and more productive machine time. Workpieces are prepared outside the work area whilst the machine continues to operate. This results in a noticeable increase in productivity with manageable effort.

Level 2 RUN

More spindle hours.
Less downtime.

RUN marks the start of your manufacturing transformation. Set-up processes run in parallel with machining, thereby minimising downtime and maximising uptime. Value added per hour increases significantly thanks to better utilisation of the machine. The first real leap in productivity.

+ THE CONCEPT: A compact unit comprising a machining centre and pallet storage. Ideal for small to medium batch sizes

+ YOUR BENEFIT: Whilst the machine is working, you can set up the next pallet during active production time. This significantly increases spindle runtime whilst taking up minimal space.

+ HARDWARE: Focus on the compact 6-position changer for very simple operation and fast handling.

Stage 1: READY
Stage 3: GROW
Level 4: STAIRS

Getting started with productive pallet automation.

RUN is a compact combination of a machining centre and a pallet storage system. It is particularly suitable for businesses wishing to reap the initial benefits of automation without having to set up a large-scale system straight away. Whilst the machine is in production, set-up takes place outside the working area. As soon as machining is complete, the system switches to the prepared pallet. RUN is particularly well suited if you:

Automation that takes the strain off the operator.

RUN is not intended to make day-to-day production any more complicated. That is why HEDELIUS ensures that the machine, pallet storage system, clamping devices and operation are all perfectly coordinated. The operator remains closely involved in the process. They can prepare the next pallet, check dimensions, set up workpieces and monitor the process. Automation does not take over responsibility, but reduces interruptions. This creates a starting point that remains practical and delivers rapid results. HEDELIUS offers three concepts for the RUN stage.

We look at where machine downtime occurs today: during clamping, inspection, searching, changeovers or maintenance.

We assess which machine, which pallet storage system and which clamping strategy are best suited to your workpieces.

You prepare the next job whilst the machine continues to operate. In this way, productive running time increases step by step.

Determine the level of automation

The first step must remain manageable.

RUN is not a leap into the unknown. Production remains manageable, the operator remains involved, and the benefits quickly become apparent in day-to-day operations. This is particularly important for medium-sized businesses: automation does not have to change everything straight away. It must first help in those areas where time is currently being wasted.

RUN pays for itself through reduced downtime and more productive hours. The machine is utilised more efficiently without the immediate need for additional skilled staff or further machines. The economic benefit is particularly evident where set-ups are frequent. Every prepared pallet reduces unproductive time in the workspace. Over days, weeks and months, this translates into additional capacity. The aim: more parts produced in the same amount of time, more stable processes and less pressure on operating staff and deadlines.
