    MARATHON LR810 at AMB 2026

HEDELIUS makes its debut in heavy-duty automation at AMB 2026.

From 15 to 19 September 2026, HEDELIUS Maschinenfabrik GmbH will be presenting three automation solutions at the AMB in Stuttgart for different requirements in single part production and small series production. The focus is on productive manufacturing concepts that maximise spindle running time, reduce set-up time and give manufacturing companies greater flexibility in handling changing orders. A particular highlight is the launch of the new MARATHON LR810 heavy-duty automation system. The systems can be seen in action in Hall 10, Stand D71.

“Anyone investing at the moment expects more than just a machine,” says Dennis Hempelmann, managing director of HEDELIUS Maschinenfabrik GmbH. “What’s in demand are solutions that boost productivity, make processes more predictable and keep companies competitive in the long term. This is precisely the approach we’ll be showcasing at AMB 2026.”

A first in heavy-duty automation

This year’s highlight is the launch of the MARATHON LR810, with which HEDELIUS is expanding its automation portfolio to include a new performance class. The linear rack is designed to accommodate ten pallets measuring 800 x 800 mm and a transfer weight of up to 2,000 kg. For the first time, this enables workpieces with clamping heights of up to 1,240 mm to be handled automatically and machined cost-effectively.

The system is being presented in combination with the TILTENTA 9-2600 MARATHON long-bed machining centre. With travel paths of 2,600 x 900 x 900 mm, the machine is suitable for machining both long components and large cubic workpieces.

MARATHON LR810 automates the machining of large workpieces with up to 10 pallet positions and 1,650 kg workpiece weight – flexibly and productively.

Debut at AMB 2026: The new MARATHON LR810 heavy-duty automation system expands the HEDELIUS automation portfolio to accommodate transfer weights of up to 2,000 kg.

What makes this manufacturing concept unique is that, whilst automated production takes place outside regular shift hours, the front of the machine remains fully accessible during the day. Complex geometries, long or heavy components, and high-precision machining operations can still be loaded from the front and processed by staff. This allows automated run times and manual machining processes to be combined as required.

“Many of our customers are looking for ways to increase machine availability, even when working with large and heavy workpieces,” says Dennis Hempelmann. “That is precisely why we developed the MARATHON LR810. The system extends the scope of automation to a range of workpieces that previously often had to be handled manually.”

The ACURA 85 MARATHON with MARATHON SR518 is designed for the flexible automation of large and heavy single parts, as well as small to medium-sized production runs.

Tried-and-tested automation for efficient workpiece production

As well as unveiling its new heavy-duty automation system, HEDELIUS is showcasing the MARATHON SR518 a tried-and-tested solution for extending productive machine running times. The multi-pallet magazine with 18 pallet locations enables the automatic processing of prepared production orders. In combination with the ACURA 85 MARATHON and travel paths of 900 x 850 x 700 mm, workpieces with a transfer weight of up to 470 kg and a clamping diameter of up to 700 mm can be machined automatically.

Tool capacities of up to 344 positions lay the foundations for a high level of process reliability, even for more complex machining tasks. The integrated control architecture based on the HEIDENHAIN TNC7 with Batch Process Manager facilitates the organisation and processing of automated production orders.

From the rotating storage/retrieval station, the operator can keep an eye on the production process at all times. The ACURA is loaded automatically from the left-hand side of the machine, ensuring that the work area remains freely accessible from the front. This solution therefore also adheres to a key principle of HEDELIUS’s automation concepts: automated productivity combined with unrestricted access to the work area and simple, practical operating procedures.

Hybrid automation for
pallets and workpieces

As its third exhibition exhibit, HEDELIUS is showcasing the hybrid automation solution MARATHON RZ430 in combination with the 5-axis machining centre ACURA 65 MARATHON. The robot cell combines pallet and workpiece handling in a single system, thereby creating the conditions for a particularly versatile automation operation.

A 6-axis YASKAWA robot with a load capacity of 88 kg (optionally 110 kg) handles loading and unloading. 30 pallets measuring 400 x 400 mm, as well as five product drawers with a grid system, enable the parallel automation of a wide variety of manufacturing tasks. Recurring components and medium batch sizes can be efficiently supplied via the product drawers, whilst single parts, special components or short-notice orders can be flexibly integrated into the automation process using pallets.

The MARATHON RZ430 combines pallet and workpiece handling in a hybrid automation solution for the ACURA series.

Two rotary storage/retrieval stations enable main time-parallel tooling for new jobs, whilst the automation system continues production. This allows different components and production tasks to be incorporated into the ongoing process with minimal set-up effort. Operating requires no specialist knowledge of robot programming and makes it particularly easy to get started with robot-assisted automation.

For even greater productivity, the MARATHON RZ430 can be configured in Linear interlinking also automatically load two machining centres from the ACURA series, thereby further increasing the available machine uptime.

Step by step towards automation

With these three exhibition exhibits, HEDELIUS demonstrates different levels of automation. From pallet magazines right through to flexible hybrid automation, the underlying objective remains the same: to create additional productive running time, stabilise processes and ensure long-term competitiveness.

At AMB 2026, visitors will gain practical insights into the various automation concepts and will be able to experience the systems on display in action. At the same time, there will be an opportunity to discuss individual strategies for the gradual automation of their own production.
