Precision and flexibility in modern metal processing

The aspiration to become better every day characterises the work at SIBA Metallverarbeitungs GmbH in Dillenburg. For over 60 years, the company has stood for innovative solutions in machine, the air industry and other demanding industries.
The focus is on quality, safety and technical development - values that also decisively characterise the cooperation with HEDELIUS.

System partner with broad manufacturing expertise

SIBA sees itself as a comprehensive system partner for its customers. In addition to precision chipping, the company offers outputs such as surface finishing, electroplating, anodising, painting and storage of components.
Thanks to this extensive process chain, components can be finished directly and delivered on call - a decisive advantage for maximum efficiency and short response times.

Two automated HEDELIUS machining centres for maximum efficiency

The company currently relies on two automated HEDELIUS machining centres, which ensure maximum precision, unmanned running times and short response times: the ACURA 65 EL with PROMOT-Automationand the ACURA 65 MARATHON with MARATHON SR422 pallet magazine.
This combination ensures optimum machining output, reliable processes and forms the basis for maximum spindle running time and state-of-the-art CNC automation.

HEDELIUS technology for maximum productivity

The machines do most of the work themselves. After careful preparation, the work process is started - the system then works autonomously.
The goal: unmanned production with maximum precision.

A key advantage of HEDELIUS technology lies in the end-to-end process communication. Programs are automatically transferred, saved and archived in an audit-proof manner.
This reduces interventions, minimises downtimes and increases productivity in CNC automation.

Efficiency through flexible batch production

The two systems complement each other perfectly: while the ACURA 65 EL with PROMOT automation produces complex workpieces unmanned, the ACURA 65 MARATHON impresses with its high flexibility in batch production.
Whether single parts or small series - thanks to the large pallet magazine, unmanned machining overnight is also possible without any problems.

Technological equipment for maximum precision

The equipment benefits of the HEDELIUS machines include:

  • A standby magazine with over 300 tools
  • A chip press, which efficiently converts residual materials into recyclable materials
  • A laser control system for maximum tool precision
These features enable the highest quality, process reliability and sustainable use of resources.

Partnership for innovation and future security

The cooperation between SIBA and HEDELIUS stands for technological excellence, trust and joint innovative strength.
Both companies are asking themselves the same question:
How can manufacturing be made even more efficient, precise and sustainable?

Two machines, one goal:
Highest productivity.

With around 60 employees at its Dillenburg site in Hesse, SIBA Metallverarbeitungs GmbH has been a reliable partner for a wide range of industries for over 60 years. The family-run company has developed from a traditional supplier to a system partner and today offers an exceptionally wide range of services. From chipping, flexible sheet metal processing and welded assemblies, to anodising, electroplating and painting, through to warehouse logistics and deliveries on call, customers receive everything from a single source.

A company that is so comprehensively installed must be able to operate highly flexibly in production. This is why SIBA has relied on machining centres from HEDELIUS for many years. The company currently relies on two automated systems that ensure maximum precision, unmanned running times and short response times: the ACURA 65 EL with PROMOT-Automation and the ACURA 65 MARATHON with MARATHON SR422 pallet magazine.

Two systems that complement each other perfectly

Not every workpiece has the same machining requirements. While many components require high-precision 5-sided machining with automation, there are also parts that can be machined in just one clamping operation. This is precisely where the strength of the combination at SIBA comes into play. "We want to have as much unmanned time as possible, we want the machines to run and communication to function smoothly," emphasises Benjamin Herbert, Head of Production Chipping. The ACURA 65 EL with PROMOT Promro is open for complex geometries and unmanned series production. Components are processed flexibly in all three axes up to 250 millimetres. Automated loading by the robot cell ensures long machine runtimes, even during shift breaks or overnight.

"We want to have as much unmanned time as possible, we want the machines to run and communication to function smoothly," emphasises Benjamin Herbert, Production Manager Chipping.

Right next door, the ACURA 65 MARATHON with the MARATHON SR422 pallet magazine takes over workpieces that require other machining steps. Typically, these are components that are manufactured in quantities of 1 or 2 and do not require complete 6-sided machining. Thanks to the pallet magazine, these parts can be quickly clamped and machined in a single clamping operation. "There are workpieces where I don't need 6-sided machining. Then I clamp the part once and machine it in a single clamping operation. This is precisely why the systems complement each other perfectly," says Herbert.

This creates a flexible interplay: one system for automated series and complex multi-sided processing, the other for smaller quantities and rationalised processes. For SIBA, this means maximum flexibility combined with high productivity and process reliability.

The ACURA 65 MARATHON was the first HEDELIUS machine chosen by SIBA Metallverarbeitungs GmbH in 2021.

ACURA 65 MARATHON: High throughput with pallet magazine

The ACURA 65 MARATHON was the first HEDELIUS machine that SIBA Metallverarbeitungs GmbH opted for in 2021. In combination with HEDELIUS' own MARATHON SR422 pallet automation system, it enables highly productive, unmanned processing around the clock. The MARATHON SR422 pallet magazine offers space for 22 pallets with dimensions of 400 x 400 mm and a clamping weight of up to 250 kg. Main time-parallel tooling and an ergonomic loading height ensure that downtimes are minimised and processes can be designed efficiently.

With its travel paths of 700 x 650 x 600 mm, stable design with a constantly projecting Y-axis and positioning accuracy of less than 6 µm, the ACURA 65 MARATHON is predestined for precise series production. Thanks to the direct connection to the pallet magazine, both small series and recurring parts can be produced with a high level of process reliability.

ACURA 65 EL: Precision meets automation

It was not until this year that the second HEDELIUS machining centre arrived in Dillenburg. Thanks to the open interface concept, the ACURA 65 EL was connected to an automation solution from the manufacturer Promot. The PROMOT Promro is a flexible robot cell that is specially designed for the automated loading and unloading of workpieces. It can handle different component sizes, enables quick changes between jobs and ensures high machine availability. In combination with the ACURA 65 EL, it enables economical production of small series as well as recurring components.

Thanks to the open interface concept, the ACURA 65 EL was connected to an automation solution from the manufacturer Promot.

The compact 5-axis machining centre impresses with travel paths of 700 x 650 x 600 mm and optimum accessibility to the work area. The ACURA is loaded via the left-hand side of the machine by the PROMOT Promro, while the operator retains free access to the working range at all times. This is a clear advantage for changing orders and small series. "The machine does most of the work. Of course, I have to do my preparations well, but ultimately I tool the machine, start it up and then it does the work," explains Benjamin Herbert.

Features that make the difference

The sophisticated additional features that the two HEDELIUS machines are equipped with are a decisive advantage in everyday production. Both machining centres have additional STANDBY tool magazines, which each provide more than 300 additional tool positions. This means that an enormous variety of tools is open, allowing SIBA to react flexibly to changing requirements. An integrated laser control system monitors the tools for maximum precision, ensuring consistent quality even in unmanned production. This is complemented by a chip press, which converts residual materials directly into clean recyclable materials and thus improves both profitability and sustainability within the company. This sets the course for economical processes, minimum tooling times and maximum machine running times, especially in a market characterised by short delivery times and changing components.

Partnership at eye level

For SIBA Metallverarbeitungs GmbH, the co-operation with HEDELIUS is more than just an investment in modern technology. It is based on trust, service quality and joint further development. "The collaboration with HEDELIUS has been very profitable for us. It was simply a good fit," summarises Benjamin Herbert. For SIBA, the two automated processing solutions mean a noticeable boost in productivity. For HEDELIUS, on the other hand, the long-standing partnership is proof that practical technology, robust designs and reliable service are convincing. Together, we ask ourselves the following questions: Where can we make a difference? Where are we important? Why are we better? And we find precise answers to these questions every day in Dillenburg.
